Course Overview

This Competency-Based Training and Assessment (CBTA) Dangerous Goods Awareness course is designed for front-line aviation personnel who may encounter dangerous goods in their daily duties but are not responsible for accepting or preparing them for transport. Using real operational scenarios, the course builds the specific competencies required to recognize, handle, and report dangerous goods safely and in full alignment with ICAO and IATA requirements.

Target Audience

  • Loaders / Ramp Personnel: Handling, loading, and unloading baggage, cargo, and mail
  • Security Screeners: Screening passengers, cabin baggage, hold baggage, cargo, and mail
  • Flight Crew (Flight Deck & Cabin Crew), Dispatchers: Responsible for the safe conduct of the flight and in-flight response to dangerous goods incidents

Learning Outcomes

  • Recognize: Identify common classes and examples of dangerous goods, Detect undeclared or misdeclared dangerous goods in baggage, cargo, and mail
  • Assess: Understand the risks associated with dangerous goods in the aviation environment, Interpret relevant markings, labels, and documentation at an awareness level
  • Act: Apply company procedures when dangerous goods are suspected or discovered, Follow emergency and incident response actions appropriate to their role, Communicate effectively with supervisors, operations control, and flight crew
